Shelby County Woman Fights for Life, Seeks Help

October 2, 2015 - A Shelby County woman fighting for her life seeks help as she awaits heart transplant.

Danquein Horton is a 32-year-old single mom of a beautiful 10-year-old named Mija. Her friends call her Dee. Dee was diagnosed as a child with Hodgkins Lymphoma twice. She survived the cancer, but the radiation treatments damaged her heart. Over time she has had countless medical treatments and has done everything she can to heal... Her heart is failing. She is now at the top of the list for a heart transplant. She has already undergone surgery for an LVAD, or Left Ventricular Assisted Device that is actually pumping her heart until she can receive a new heart. She will have to stay away from home for at least 3 months in hotels near the heart hospital in Houston. Her daughter Mija also has expensive medication she takes as she has a condition called Actinic Prurigo. This is basically an allergy to the sun. Her body reacts differently to milk, cheese, all dairy products, and heat when she goes out in the sun for more than 30 minutes at a time.

It causes her face, lips, and throat to swell and her skin burns and peels. She is taking medicine to control it and has to have specialized creams that are mixed for her at Texas Children's Hospital.

Dee has never tried to abuse the system, she has always been a hard worker as a surgical scrub technician and is well respected in the medical community. She has been unable to work for the past year and with medical bills and living expenses growing by the day, she needs help. She is not one to ask for it, but is one who deserves it. This community has always been a great one, reaching out to those who need it the most. There are countless examples of genuine support, and it is always appreciated! If you or someone you know is able to help Dee and her daughter Mija out, there are several ways set to do so.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for her and she is able to draw funds as needed and donated at gofundme.com/haveaheartfordee

If you have anything you would like to clean out of your attics or homes and would like to donate items, there will be a benefit garage sale on Saturday, October 10th at Love, Inc. in Nacogdoches. The address is 917 Ruby St. in Nacogdoches across from Bonita Park.

A portion of her proceeds will go to Love Inc. to give back to the community. Love, Inc. will also be conducting a warehouse sale the same day! So please check it out!

There is also a Raffle going on right now of which the winner will be announced on October 10th after the sale is over! Tickets are $1 for 1 ticket, $2 for 3 tickets, and $5 for 8 tickets. Tickets are available at The Surgery Center of Nacogdoches (on the corner across from Walmart), and also at the Quick Stop in Timpson.

If you like to run, walk, jog, or stroll, then you will like to participate in a 5K FUN RUN! Details are in the works, but tee shirts and medals will be involved!

For any information on these and upcoming events, please contact Suzanne Graupman at 936-371-0566 for more details.

Dee also has a blood type that is difficult to receive a heart.. O positive. She also admits it's hard to pray for a heart because she knows how she will get it.... But she also prays for the family that will be involved.... Organ transplant is traumatic for both families....

Dee is deserving of a full and beautiful life... and would greatly appreciate any amount of money or items donated. She is grateful for every day, mainly so she can praise her Lord Jesus, and to give her daughter a hug and watch her grow up. Please consider giving to support Dee and her family, they would be eternally grateful! Thank you!!
