May 19, 2016 - Shelbyville High School introduces the graduating class of 2016.
The Valedictorian is Christasha Johnson who is the daughter of Stephanie Garrett and Christopher Johnson. Her grandparents are Elton and Patricia Chumbley and Charles and Era Johnson. She has competed one year in Cross-Examination Debate and four years in Calculator Applications for the University Interscholastic League. Christasha is currently serving as president of her senior class along with being the vice-president for the Shelby County Junior Chamber of Commerce. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and she was nominated to be a member of the The National Society of High School Scholars. Christasha plans to attend the University of Texas at Tyler in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
The Salutatorian is Jessica Hemphill who is the daughter of David and Belinda Hemphill, and the granddaughter of Betty Myers, Frank Nielson, and Glenn and Patricia Heintschel. She has participated in Band for six years, winning numerous awards in Marching and Site Reading contests. Jessica has also competed in University Interscholastic League Mathematics competitons for three years. Additionally, Jessica has been a member of the Dragon Players theatre group for four years and the Dragon Readers book club for four years as well. After graduation Jessica plans to attend Stephen F. Austin State University to major in Nursing and plans to become a CRNA.
