May 15, 2023 - Shelbyville High School introduces the graduating class of 2023. Commencement ceremonies will be held at 7pm on Friday, May 26 in the main gym.
Valedictorian: Ms. Aubree Camp
During Aubree’s time at Shelbyville High School, she was elected to represent her class as Vice President for two consecutive years. She served as the Treasurer of Junior Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of Young Ambassadors. Aubree is a member of the Student Council and Beta Club. She participated as a member of the Two-Time UIL State Marching Fifth Place Dragon Band where she served as Assistant Drum Major. She qualified for the UIL Solo and Ensemble State meet three times and placed First Division. She was a Shelbyville Strutter Drill Team member for four years and led as Lieutenant and later, Captain. She was a member of the Shelbyville Athletics program for two years where she competed in cross country and was a member of the Varsity Basketball and Softball teams. While Aubree enjoyed these activities, she excelled in academics. Aubree competed in Cross-Examination Debate, Congressional Debate, Persuasive Speaking, and Current Issues and Events. She received a multitude of District and Regional awards. Additionally, she qualified for the CX Debate State Meet four times and received a Fourth Place Gavel Award and a Bronze Gavel Award. Aubree and her partner placed Second, Third, and Fifth. In Congress, she was a two-time State Meet Qualifier and won a Fourth Place Medal. She also qualified for the Persuasive State Meet three times. Aubree will attend Baylor University to major in Business Communications and minor in Spanish. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, she hopes to attend Baylor Law School to pursue studies in Real Estate and Corporate Law.
Salutatorian: Ms. Ava Silva
During high school, Ava has participated in many extracurriculars and earned many accomplishments. Ava has been a member of the Shelbyville Strutters for four years and has held leadership positions such as Left Lieutenant and Captain. She has competed in band for five years, placing 5th at the State Marching Competition twice during her involvement in the organization. She has also qualified for the All-Area band in bass clarinet, qualified for state in solo and ensemble twice, once receiving a 1st division rating, and was voted Outstanding Musician. She has also competed in Theater for seven years earning honorable all-star cast at district, all-star cast at district, all-star cast at area. Ava is a member of the Beta Club and Student Council. She is a five year member of JCC and president of the organization. She served as Class President for two consecutive years. Ava enjoyed all four years of speech and debate UIL. In CX Debate, Ava has been a four-time qualifier for State, three time District Champion, three time District High Point Speaker, State Bronze Gavel, State Silver Gavel, State Golden Gavel, State 5th Place medalist, State 3rd Place medalist, and State Silver medalist. In Congressional Debate, Ava has been a four-time qualifier for State, a two-time Regional Champion, a State Super Congress Finalist, State Outstanding Presiding Officer, State 3rd Place medalist, and State Silver Medalist. In Poetry Interpretation, Ava is a two-time district champion, Regional 3rd Place, and State Qualifier. In Informative Speaking, Ava is a three-time District Champion, Regional 3rd Place medalist, Regional 2nd Place Medalist, three-time State Qualifier, and State Champion. Upon graduation, Ava will spend the next four years attending Harvard University.
