Shelbyville Suffers 49-14 District Football Loss at Garrison

The Shelbyville Dragons dropped a District 11 2A-1 road game to the Garrison Bulldogs (6-0, 2-0) by a 49-14 score. The Dragons now stand at 3-2 this season and 1-1 in the conference.

Garrison got on the scoreboard first when Omarion Rasberry broke free for a 22-yard touchdown run with 8:34 minutes left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs extra point try failed and GHS led 6-0.

Dylan Parker caught a tipped pass from Shelbyville quarterback DJ Barnes and raced to the endzone for a 55-yard Dragons touchdown with 6:24 remaining in the first period. Parker’s extra point kick sailed through the uprights and gave SHS a slim 7-6 advantage.

Later in the first stanza Garrison retook the lead at 14-7 when Rasberry found the endzone for a 13-yard touchdown with 4:16 remaining. Garrison regained possession of the football late in the first period when Bulldog Jachristopher Shepherd intercepted a Dragons pass and returned it to the Shelbyville 43- yard line. At the beginning of the second quarter Garrison got another touchdown from Rasberry to go up 21-7. Bulldog quarterback Brayden Davidson hit Shepherd for a 25-yard scoring reception with 2:07 minutes left in the second period to put the GHS lead at 28-7.

Davidson hit Briley Montgomery, who hit Shepherd on a double-pass completion for a touchdown for another GHS touchdown which gave the Bulldogs a 35-7 advantage just 11 seconds before the midway break.

In the third frame Rasberry helped Garrison go up 42-7 at the 9:17 mark with an electrifying 41-yard touchdown run.

Shelbyville kept fighting and Barnes broke free for a Dragons touchdown on a quarterback keeper at the 4:10 minute mark. A Parker extra point kick cut the GHS lead to 42-14.

Davidson scored the game’s final touchdown on fourth down and goal at the Shelbyville 4-yardline with 7:15 remaining in the contest.

The Dragons will next host the Grapeland Sandies on Friday, October 12, 2023 at 7 p.m. The Sandies are 2-4, 0-2 in District 11, after a 46-14 loss at home to the Joaquin Rams on Friday.
