September 10, 2018 - The Gateway to Texas Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas joined the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas on Saturday, September 8, to start a new year. Chapter President Nolan Sholar, Chapter Secretary Don Casto and Chapter members George Harrison, Leonard Irish, Gene Casto and Sean Martin welcomed guests Parker Garrett and Woody Dorman as they discussed the new year's projects and activities. The SRT Chapter regularly assists the DRT Chapter with the Travelin' Trunk presentations, medallion ceremonies and Honor Day programs. Following their meeting the men joined the DRT Chapter for their luncheon.
The SRT is open to male lineal descendants of those pioneers, male or female, who settled the Republic of Texas prior to February 19, 1846, when Texas became the 28th state. The purpose of the SRT is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas. The Gateway to Texas Chapter meets quarterly.
