April 24, 2019 - After a week delay because of bad weather, the Spring Fling in Joaquin finally took place Saturday, April 20. It was the first Spring Fling and it turned out so nice that we must acknowledge the help we received on several fronts.
The Events Committee had to work and re-work lots of parts and pieces to make this successful. The most important part was the kids who came out to hunt 800 eggs in a record amount of time. The Committee would like to thank the Joaquin Fire Department for their help, as well as Brookshire Brothers of Joaquin, Chicken Express of Carthage, Lou-Tex for donating the Porta Potties and Cornerstone for loaning equipment to put up those flags we see on poles throughout Joaquin.
Jessie Whitteck and Treavor Duron did a lot of work putting up the flags. Things had to set up and taken down and moved both week-ends and we appreciate Jeff Rodgers and Steve Rodgers, Teresa and Kenny Dent, Peggie and Treavor Duron and the Joaquin First United Methodist Youth group.
Pat Gray donated an Avon basket as a prize and we thank Sue Smith, Nancy Stevens, Pat Gray for judging the Easter Bonnet Contest. Billy Barnet and Melissa Rodgers were Easter Bunny and helper and Nolan and Gail Sholar printed free pictures of kids with the Easter Bunny.
Winners of the Easter Bonnet Contest were Ann Ortigo for Best Traditional bonnet, Cricket for Most Creative and Elizabeth Duron for Best in Children’s Division. We hope to do an even better job next year and thank everyone who helped make this year’s event a big success.
