State Highway 84 Bridge Project Entering Second Year

March 5, 2015 - Work is progressing into the second year of the $20.4 million U.S. 84 bridge construction project that connects Joaquin and Logansport, Louisiana. The project began in January, 2014 with a 30-month time frame for completion.

James Construction Group, contractor for the project, is currently setting beams and the pavement structure for the eastbound lanes is under construction. Work is also underway on the intersection of LA5, which is also included in the project across the state line in Logansport.

Once the project is complete, traffic will be moved to the newly constructed bridge and roadway and the old bridge structure will be demolished.

Westbound lanes will be constructed in the original footprint of the bridge and, once complete, will relieve bridge congestion and create a more enjoyable driving experience from Texas across the Sabine River into Louisiana.

While construction in ongoing, motorists should be aware of and obey all traffic control devices, be alert and watch for workers, be prepared to slow down and remember that traffic fines increase while workers are present.
