Strong Second Half Lifts Panola Men Past Kilgore, 70-57

January 24, 2016 Kilgore, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team defeated Kilgore College here this afternoon, 70-57. With the victory, Panola raises their record to 16-5 and 7-3 in Region 14 play. “We put together one of the best half’s of basketball all year.” Head Coach Grant McMillan said. “The first half we probably tried to do a little too much. We found a way to speed Kilgore up and get defensive stops in the second half.” He added.

A back and forth first half found the Ponies trailing 33-31 at halftime. Kilgore scored the first point in the second half before Panola went on a 13-1 run to take a ten point lead. Panola eventually increased their lead to 17 points midway through the second half before taking the 13 point victory.

Leading the way offensively for the Ponies was Jonathan Wiley (Houston, Texas) and Charles Tucker (Lansing, Michigan) who tallied 14 points each. Wiley grabbed 10 rebounds while Tucker dished out nine assists in the win. Chan Williams-Bey (Harford, Connecticut) and Devyn Wilson (Brooklyn, New York) used hot shooting from the three point line on their way to scoring 12 points apiece. As a team, Panola held Kilgore to just 24 second half points and shot 52 percent from the field for the game.

Panola will next be in action this upcoming Wednesday, January 27th when they Host Tyler Junior College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM at Arthur Johnson Gymnasium on the campus of Panola College in Carthage, Texas.
