Off-System Bridges Approved for Replacement Includes Shelby County

May 11, 2017 - LUFKIN – The Texas Transportation Commission in April approved more than $285 million in new construction projects for the state, with two located in the Lufkin District that totaled $1 million.

Shelby County was also approved for off-system bridge replacements on CR 4855 at Byfield Creek and on CR 4760 at the tributary of the Attoyac Bayou. Stateline Construction will serve as contractor for the $432,714 project.

Houston County was approved for an off-system bridge replacement on CR 1155 at the Neches River Relief. The project includes the construction of a new bridge and bridge approaches. Hodges and Son Construction Company will serve as contractor for the $619,443 project.

These bridges are off-system bridges owned by local counties or other entities. TxDOT inspects all bridges at least once every 24 months documenting those that need replacement. Off-system bridge replacements are funded through the Federal Bridge Program. In the past 12 months, the Lufkin District has replaced 33 off-system bridges.

As these projects and others in the district begin, motorists are urged to use caution as they near work areas. Be prepared to stop or detour. Stay alert for flaggers or single lane traffic. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
