A Taste of Home Grown Freshness

April 29, 2019 - There’s nothing quite like fresh produce!  Come discover the benefits of what a home-grown garden has to offer with the Growing and Nourishing Healthy Communities home gardening course offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service - Shelby County. This program is a four-session course that will be provided free of charge at the Shelby County Extension office, 266 Nacogdoches St, Center, TX.  Each session will be conducted from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: May 7, May 15, May 21, and May 28th. Registration in advance is required for purchase of supplies. It is recommended that participants wear close-toed shoes and bring a bottle of water to each session.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about garden site selection, how to conduct a soil sample and read the results, selecting the best vegetables to grow in Shelby County, identifying garden pests and diseases, using a raised garden bed, harvesting and storing produce, how to prepare delicious, easy vegetable dishes, and much more. “If you are looking for a fun, easy, hands-on garden program to use at home or a way to incorporate more vegetables in your diet, then this course is for you,” said Feleshia Thompson, Better Living for Texans Extension Educator.
