September 10, 2024 - Renny and Sara Eaves, longtime residents of Tenaha, Texas, are being inducted into the Tenaha ISD Hall of Honor. The 20th annual induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the TISD Cafetorium and will be announced during homecoming activities at the Tenaha versus Linden-Kildare homecoming game. Game time is 6pm.
Renny is a 1964 graduate of Tenaha High School. Renny and Sara married in 1966 and eighteen years later, they were blessed with their only child, Elizabeth. Renny and Sara made their home in Tenaha and were members of First Baptist Church. Their daughter, Elizabeth graduated from Tenaha ISD also. Sara worked as a cosmetologist for 47 years in the Tenaha Community, while Renny worked as an Engineer for various energy companies. He served on the Tenaha City Council for three years and was a member of the Tenaha ISD School Board from 1986-1992.
Always the Tiger fan and supporter, they were a staple at all Tenaha High School activities. However, their lasting contribution to Tenaha ISD was their undying support of the Tenaha High School Tiger Band. In the late 1980’s, this couple felt that something was missing at Tenaha ISD. This missing element was a band program. Tenaha’s band had been dissolved decades before due to lack of funding and support. Renny and Sara went door to door to get verbal commitments from TISD students to participate in a Tiger Band. Then they worked tirelessly along with other community members to raise money for the restart of a band program. In 1987, with the support of the Tenaha ISD Board of Trustees, the Roaring Band from Tigerland made their first appearance in the Pit. It had been 35 years since a band performed at a Tenaha Football halftime. Renny served as Band Booster President for many years. This was an important time in their lives as well as a joy to be a part of such an amazing program that is still thriving today. Without the dedication of the Eaves, our Tiger Band would not be able to provide the amazing opportunities that our students enjoy today. Tenaha ISD owes a debt of gratitude to Renny and Sara Eaves for this integral contribution.
Sadly, Sara passed away on May 22, 2023, and she would have been so honored to accept this award. Renny still lives in Tenaha, Texas, and enjoys spending time with his daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law Austin and the apples of his eye, their dear grandchildren, Ava and Cruz.
