Tenaha Competes at Timpson for District Basketball

The Timpson Lady Bears varsity basketball team defended their District 22 2A lead by defeating the visiting Tenaha Lady Tigers by a 52-31 score on Friday. The Lady Bears lead the conference with a 10-1 mark with three district games remaining in the season.

Timpson never trailed and led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers still trailed by seven points at halftime with Timpson holding a 24-17 lead.

Timpson milked most of the third period clock down with a 4-corners rotating stall which allowed them to outpace the Lady Tigers 5-2, and extend their lead to 29-19 going into the final period.

Timpson outscored Tenaha 12-5 in the fourth period to take the win.

The Lady Bears were led by Laiton Braddock and Brylee Behrens who each had eleven points. The Lady Tigers were led by Kamari Gray with 8 points.

The Tigers Boys varsity was able to beat the Bears by a 61-40 score. Timpson held a 9-8 advantage at the end of the first stanza. Tenaha outscored Timpson 15-5 points in the second period and the Tigers took a 25-16 advantage into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

By the end of the third period the Tigers were able to gain a 52-33 advantage on the way to the win.

This ended a 3-game winning streak for Timpson who has a 4-5 district standing with five games remaining. The Bears will next travel to San Augustine on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 where district games will tipoff with Junior Varsity at 4:30 p.m. at Wolves Gymnasium.

The Tigers are at 7-1 and atop the district along with Shelbyville who also has just a single loss. Tenaha will host the Martinsville Pirates at the THS Special Events Center next Tuesday, February 4. JV starts at 4:30 p.m.
