Tenahas’ Raymond Jackson Stadium on Thursday, September 5, 2024 –
The Tenaha Tigers fell to the visiting West Sabine Tigers by a lopsided 66-21 point score on Thursday. In a game which saw steady drizzle falling throughout the Tigers were able to get their only lead when senior quarterback Bri’Kelian Kenney scored on a 15-yard touchdown run and converted a 2-point try to give THS an 8-0 lead with 8:49 minutes left in the first quarter.
West Sabine bounced back when Peyton Bourque capped a 64-yard scoring drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. Kameron Striegel added a 2-point conversion and the game was tied at 8-8 points with 7:01 left in the first quarter.
WSHS recovered a Tenaha fumble moments later and Bourque scored another touchdown on a 1-yard touchdown run to give West Sabine a 14-8 advantage with 3:44 left in the opening period. West Sabine again extended their lead to 22-8 with a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown, and a 2-point conversion by Striegel with just 32 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Striegel add a 17-yard scoring run to his resume and Bourque score on a 2-point conversion run which extended the WSHS lead to 30-8 at the 8:10 mark of the third stanza.
Kenney scored a Tenaha touchdown on a 65-yard keeper run with 7:51 left in the third period and THS trailed 30-14 after a failed 2-point try.
West Sabine took a 36-14 lead into the halftime intermission after Alex Richardson scored on a 23-yard reception from Laken Quick.
The second half saw the WSHS Tigers outpace Tenaha by a 30-7 point differential to extend the final score to 66-21. WSHS now stands at 1-1 for the season and THS is at 0-2. Tenaha will regroup and head to Joaquin Rams Stadium next Friday, September 13, 2024 at 7 p.m. Joaquin is 1-1 after falling to the Beckville Bearcats by a 28-24 score on Thursday.
