December 14, 2018 - It is back!!! For the last nine Christmas and New Year’s seasons, Tenaha Holiday Hoops has been the center for excitement, entertainment, and great food in Shelby and Panola County. This year marks the 10th Annual edition of what is widely recognized as the state’s premier small classification invitational basketball tournament.
What began with just 24 participants in 2008 has now grown to 42 of the state’s premier boys and girls Class A, 2A, and 3A programs. This year’s field boasts five participants from last year’s State Tournament in San Antonio including two State Champions in their respective classes (Lipan boys and Martins Mill girls). With over 80% of a field considered to be contenders for the playoffs and the regional tournament level, this year’s event is sure to leave fans on the edge of their seats with great hoops action.
Seventy-five games over three days in five great venues. Action begins Thursday morning, December 27th, at 8:30. Venues for this event are the SEC at Tenaha High School; Tiger Gym, Tenaha; Panola Johnson Gymnasium, Carthage; Timpson High School Gym, Timpson; and Joaquin High School Gym in Joaquin. Don’t forget the star attraction every year also, The Tiger Café!!! Located at the Tenaha High School Cafetorium will be open daily for lunch and dinner. The lunch rush will begin at 11am and will close at 2:30pm. Lunch choices daily will be Cajun Fried Catfish, Hamburgers, and Chicken Strips including French Fries plus Iced Tea for only $8.00. The dinner run will begin at 4:30pm and end at 8:30pm. The menu will include all the traditional Holiday Hoop cuisine including your choice of Cajun Fried Catfish, Chicken Fried Steak, Quesadillas with a Baked Potato or French Fries, Cole Slaw or Salad, plus Iced Tea for $9.00 for dinner. Saturday night Fried Shrimp will be added to the dinner menu. There will also be a full concession stand in the SEC, opens daily at 10am. So be sure to pass on the same ol’, same ol’ and enjoy the best restaurant dining in three counties right here in Tenaha over the weekend.
