Tenaha Takes “Battle of the Tigers” Season Opener 50-38 over West Sabine

Junior quarterback Ja’Tyrion Moore had a big day in Tenaha’s 50-38 over the West Sabine Tigers during their varsity football season opener. Moore rushed for six touchdowns, passed for another score and made two 2-point conversions during the win. The game was played at Timpson High School due to heavy rain.

Moore opened up the scoring just 20 seconds into the game with a 65-yard run from scrimmage. The Tenaha Tiger’s conversion attempt failed and THS led 6-0.

West Sabine bounced back two minutes later when Jakorian Walker scored on a one-yard run which capped a 62-yard scoring drive. The WSHS 2-point conversion was successful and West Sabine led 8-6.

Tenaha took a 12-8 lead when A’vante Fredieu caught a Moore pass for a score with 4:43 left in the opening frame.

West Sabine once again bounced back with a score of their own when Blaine Bourque scored on a 27-yard run and Walker converted a 2-pt scamper. WSHS led 16-12 with 3:18 left in the first period.

Moore gave THS a 20-16 lead with an 18-yard keeper and a 2-pt conversion run with 1:51 still left in the opening stanza.

Each team scored twice more during the second quarter and Tenaha took a narrow 34-32 lead into the lockerroom at the midway intermission.

The third period saw no score. With 8:23 left in the fourth quarter, Moore scored on a 79-yard scamper and Kamarion Ross added a 2-point conversion run to give THS a 42-32 lead. Moore added the final score of the contest with a 38-yard keeper and Jordan Reese added a 2-point conversion with 2:30 remaining in the game. The Tenaha defense tightened. Sophomore defensive back Ja’Torion Moore ended West Sabines offensive hopes with a late-game interception. The Tigers were able to hold on for the remainder of the 50-38 home opening win.
