Tenaha Takes Area Basketball Playoff over Evadale 89-56

The Tenaha Tigers jumped out to a 28-11 lead by the end of the first quarter of Friday’s Area Basketball Playoff with the Evadale Rebels. Tenaha got a game-high 40 points from senior guard JaQualin Franks in the effort, the Tigers never trailed during the contest. Teammate Erik Smith scored 21 points to help in the win. Rebel Jacob Splawn had a team-high 25 points for Evadale.

By halftime Tenaha built their lead to 45-23 using an aggressive defensive press to force 9 Evadale turnovers. Tiger’s head coach Greg Jenkins kept fresh personnel in the game which helped THS wear down the Rebels and build their lead to 61-36 by the conclusion of the third stanza.

Tenaha outscored Evadale 28-20 in the final frame to build the game’s final score to 89-56. Tenaha came into the contest as the third place representative of District 22 2A. Evadale was the first place team for District 24. The Tigers will now face the second seed of District 22, Woden High School, Woden beat Broaddus 52-48 on Friday. Tenaha and Woden split a pair of games during district play with the Tigers winning the most recent matchup by a 52-48 score on February 12. The rematch will take place at Panola College in Carthage on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
