September 20, 2021 - "Rural Economic Development" Workshop hosted by the Texas Forest Country Partnership and delivered by Alysia Cook, PCED, IOM of Opportunity Strategies is Friday, September 24th from 9:30am to 3pm.

Our workshop will be held in Stephen F. Austin State University's Grand Ballroom and lunch will be provided by Azalea Catering.

In-person is highly encouraged, however, Zoom capabilities will be available. The workshop will be recorded and made accessible for those registered.

Please arrive by 9:15am for coffee and networking. We will adjourn by 2:30pm. We hope you can be there!

In this 4-hour workshop, Alysia will discuss an overview of rural economic development, community development, and business development. She will cover the 8 Pillars of Economic Development and how rural communities can maximize opportunities. Topics will include business attraction, existing business retention, working with entrepreneurs and small business owners, workforce development, marketing, infrastructure, social media, events, positioning, commitment, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and coalition building, etc.

We will discuss best practices from other rural communities and economic development organizations, elements of effective regional rural economic development, and discuss creative ideas to help local businesses with resiliency post-COVID. We will talk about collaboration and cooperation and working together toward a common vision and why every organization needs a strategy for success.

The purpose is to give leaders like you in the communities served by the Texas Forest Country Partnership the tools you need to make effective and efficient decisions in the realm of economic development and be able to ask questions about economic development and what it means for your community and our region.

We care about your safety. The room will be set up for social distancing and hand sanitizer will be provided. For the safety of all, face masks are encouraged due to the recent surge in the delta variant in our area.
