Thank You for Supporting Shelby County Child Welfare Board's Empty Stocking Fund

January 11, 2019 - Shelby County Child Welfare Board's legal responsibility is to provide assistance to children from Shelby County who are in need of protection until they reach their 18th birthday. In addition to fulfilling this responsibility, the Board wanted to help Shelby County youth who were not foster children. One of the ways the Board does this is through the Empty Stocking and Emergency Fund which provides Christmas gifts to 150 needy children in Shelby County under the age of 12.

The Shelby County Child Welfare Board would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Empty Stocking Fund. They would like to give a special thank you to the S. W. Carter Elementary School Student Voice for the generous support they have given to Shelby County under-privileged children, their families and Shelby County foster children. Each fall, Student Voice students collect money at the homecoming football game and donate it to the Empty Stocking Fund. They traditionally work at the fundraiser held at Wal Mart the second Saturday in December. This year they also decorated pumpkins to represent their favorite book characters. Students and staff voted (with money) on the “best” pumpkin. This money was also given to the Shelby County Child Welfare Board.

Shelby County schools are encouraged to support the Shelby County Child Welfare Board by holding a fundraiser during the year. Additional information may be obtained by contacting the Shelby County Child Welfare Board at Box 395, Shelbyville, TX 75973.
