Three Ponies Sign with D1 University Basketball Teams

May 16, 2016 - Three Panola College Ponies basketball players have signed to play with D1 schools. Charles “Cha Cha” Tucker, Jr., will attend Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. He was first team All-Region and first team All-Conference in Region XIV play.

Johnathan Wiley will play for Southern Illinois University. He earned honorable mention honors in All-Region Conference.

Joseph “Jo Jo” Anderson, who came to Panola mid-season, will play for Northern Arizona University, and will have four complete years of eligibility.

“It speaks volumes for our program to have four Division One players in one year,” said Grant McMillan, Head Basketball Coach. “It is our job to prepare our student athletes for the highest level, and I know that these three will have an impact at each of their programs next year on and off the floor. I think that we could possibly have a fifth later on in the summer sign with a D-1 school.”

McMillan said the signings will help with recruiting. “This will help us to continue to grow the Panola College Brand. I cannot thank these young men enough for their trust and support in us. Two of them won a lot of ballgames, and helped lay the foundation for this program. It is the most rewarding part of this job to see our student athletes move on. Their careers will serve as an example for our freshman and future players.”
