Tigers Fall in Region III Elimination Playoff with Sandies

The Tenaha Tigers varsity basketball team’s season came to an end when they fell by a 67-55 score to the Grapeland Sandies. The Tiger’s overall record finished at 27-9.

The game was close early. Tenaha held a narrow 11-9 lead midway through the first period and the game was tied 19-19 at the conclusion of the first stanza. At halftime Grapeland led 38-35.

The third quarter saw the Sandies fight to hold a 3-point advantage at 54-51 when the buzzer sounded. Grapeland outpaced Tenaha 13-4 in the final period to earn the win. Mike Hogg Jr. led scoring for Tenaha with 23 points.

Grapeland went on to face the Shelbyville Dragons on Saturday where SHS was able to take the Region III Finals win by a 72-65 score.

The Dragons (37-3) will square off with Gruver (17-4) at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020. Martin's Mill and San Saba will play in the other semifinal at 8:30 a.m. The winners of these contest will face off in the championship matchup on Saturday.
