Tigers Get Second Win Over Pirates

The Tenaha Tigers varsity baseball team gained their second win of the season when they beat the Martinsville Pirates, for the second time, by 7-3 score. The contest was a rain-makeup game at Gary High school. The win improved the Tigers overall, and District 23 2A mark to 2-9. Martinsville has a 0-11 conference mark.

The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead, in the first inning, when T Giles and Austin Williford scored after reaching base on walks, advancing on steals and a passed ball, and coming home on two sacrifice fly balls to the outfield.

The Tigers extended their lead to 3-0 with a score from Cody Foshee in the top of the second inning. The Tigers extended their lead to 5-0 with scores from Williford and Hunter Wagstaff in the top of the third inning. Martinsville fought back to pull to within 2-5 of THS in the bottom of the third frame with scores from M. Kressin and J. Gomez.

Juarmez Brock doubled and later scored in the fourth inning to put THS up 6-2. Martinsville bounced back in the bottom half of the inning with a run from D. Flournoy which cut the Tiger’s lead to 6-3.

Brock reached base on a walk in the sixth inning and later scored after advancing on a steal, an error, and a fielder’s choice. This proved to be the games’ final score and gave the Tigers the 7-3 conference victory.

Tenaha next travels to Shelbyville High School on Tuesday, April 18. The game will be at Dragons Ballpark, at 6:30 p.m.
