Tuesday’s District 23 2A basketball competition saw the varsity girls and boy’s teams from Tenaha take wins from hometown San Augustine.

Girl’s conference play saw the Lady Tigers jump out to an 18-12 lead by the end of first quarter. San Augustine outpaced THS 13-8 in the third stanza so Tenaha’s lead was cut to 26-25 by the midway point of the contest.

The game stayed close in the third frame and an offensive boost by Tenaha near the end of the quarter saw THS lead 36-33 going into the final period.

When the dust settled Tenaha had escaped with a 46-44 win.

Boys varsity action would also be close and hard fought. The Tigers looked to have pulled away early as they led 19-9 at the end of the first period and 34-22 at the halftime break.

The third period saw San Augustine fight back and get to within seven points of tying the game with 3:44 left. Tenaha went on a run and built a 57-38 lead by the end of the third quarter.

The Tigers eventually staved off another SAHS comeback and they took a 68-58 win.

The Lady Tigers and Tigers will have another district contest at home on Monday, January 12, 2021. Junior varsity action tips off at 4:30 p.m. with varsity play to follow.
