The Tenaha Tigers varsity football team took a 28-7 point win at their 2023 Tenaha Homecoming against the visiting Cushing Bearkats. The win gives THS a 6-2 overall record and a District 10 2A-2 record of 3-0. Cushing is at 3-5, 0-3.

Scoring started late. The game was tied at 0-0 when the first quarter ended after each team had turned the ball over on downs. The second quarter saw Cushing defensive back, senior linebacker Deshaun Tilly, intercept a Tenaha pass and return it to the Tiger’s 15-yardline at the 10:24 mark of the period. Cushing failed to score and turned the football back over on downs at the THS 11-yard line with a little over 11 minutes left in the first half.

A Tenaha 14-play drive saw them take a 7-0 point lead when junior quarterback Brikelian Kenney scored on a 7-yard keeper run and then Tenaha kicked a successful extra point with 1:35 left before halftime.

The Tigers extended their lead to 14-0 when Kenney hit senior receiver La’Tyrion Moore for a 56-yard touchdown with just 1:11 left in the third quarter.

Cushing fought back when junior quarterback Eli Dawson capped a 65-yard scoring drive with a 1-yard scoring run. Jakob Lekas added the extra point kick and cut the Tenaha lead to 14-7 with 6:16 left in the fourth quarter.

Kenney hit Moore for a 14-yard touchdown with 2:51 remaining in the game but the Tiger’s extra point attempt failed. Tenaha led 20-7. Tenaha was later able to extend their lead to 28-7 when sophomore linebacker Cade Sims recovered a Bearkats fumble at the two-minute mark. Tenaha went on a scoring drive that saw runningback DJ Cooks score on a 44-yard touchdown run and Kenney added a 2 point conversion run to make the score 28-7 with 1:19 remaining. This proved to be the final score of the contest.

Tenaha will go to Mount Enterprise next Friday, October 27, 2023 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Wildcats Stadium. The Wildcats are 2-1 in District 10 and 4-3 overall. They won at Carlisle on Friday by a 76-60 score.
