Tigers Take 55-8 Homecoming Win over Bulldogs

The Tenaha Tigers varsity football team took a convincing 55-8 win over the visiting Colmesneil Bulldogs during Tenahas’ 2021 Homecoming weekend. THS had their parade earlier in the day and they recognized their 2011 State Championship Tiger team before kickoff. Also recognized before the game were 2021 Hall of Honor recipients Phyllis Thompson and Sam Kay who were acknowledged for their contributions to the community.

Tiger Jeremy Patton got Tenaha on the scoreboard early with a 53-yard touchdown run. Teammate Manuel Laredo kicked the extra point and THS led 7-0 with 8:51 minutes left in the first quarter.

Colmesneil’s next drive only last four plays. Tenaha went up 14-0 after Ja’Tyrian Moore scored on a 35-yard touchdown with 5:22 still left in the opening frame.

The Bulldogs turned over the ball moments later on a fumble which was recovered by Debrae’lyn Cooks. THS wasted no time and Trindon Claiborne hit Jordan Ross for a touchdown just moments later to boost the Tiger’s lead to 21-0. Just seconds later Jatyrian Moore picked off a Bulldogs pass and helped extend the THS lead to 28-0 with 2:31 still left in the first quarter. By the end of the opening period the Tigers enjoyed a 35-0 lead.

Tenaha got touchdowns from Charles Harvey and A’vanta Friedieu in the second period giving them a 49-0 lead at the midway break.

The Tigers season record now stands at 4-2. Their District 11 2A mark is at 2-0. Next Friday, October 8, 2021 Tenaha will travel to West Sabine for a 7 p.m. kickoff at WSHS Tigers Stadium in Pineland.
