The Tenaha Tigers varsity football team had little success in the first half of their 2022 Homecoming game as they trailed the visiting Alto Yellowjackets by a 22-7 score going into the midway intermission.

Things got worse as the Tigers gave up two more touchdowns to Alto by the 9:33 minute mark of the third period. They trailed Alto 36-7.

Two minutes later things began to change as Kamarion Ross capped a 50-yard scoring drive with a 3-yard touchdown run which pulled THS to within 36-13 of Alto after a failed 2-point conversion attempt.

Alto fumbled and Kajavian Ross returned it for the Tigers to the Alto 40-yard line with 5:09 left in the third stanza. With 3:29 left in the period, JaTyrion Moore scored on a 20-yard weaving keeper run for a touchdown which cut the AHS lead to 36-21 after he ran in a 2-point conversion run.

Moore scored on a 54-yard run with 8:15 left in the fourth period and he again added a 2-pt conversion to pull THS to seven points with Alto holding a 36-29 advantage.

Jordan Reese later added a 15-yard touchdown run and Michael Santana booted through an extra point kick to tie the game at 36-36 with 4:33 left in the contest.

Alto’s Clayton Terry regained the lead for AHS with a 53-yard touchdown with 1:05 left in the game. A conversion attempt failed and Alto led 42-36.

Tenaha moved the ball to Alto’s 5-yard line on their next possession and they were first and goal with just 28 seconds remaining. Moore found Charles Hervey for a 5-yard touchdown reception which tied the game at 42-42. Santana added another extra point kick and THS took their first lead at 43-42 with only 24 seconds left.

Alto mishandled the ensuing kickoff in what proved to be the final chance for a Yellowjackets comeback, as Tenaha’s Dejaylon Cooks alertly scooped up the football and gained possesion for Tenaha. The Tigers were then able to take a knee and expire the remaining time off the clock for the win.

Tenaha is now 3-4 this season and they have a 1-1 District 11 2A-2 record with 3 conference games remaining. They will travel to Cushing next Friday, October 21, 2022 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Bearkats Stadium. Cushing is 1-1 in the conference after a 49-20 loss at Carlisle on Friday.
