Timpson Bear Up: Pre-K Newsletter, Veteran's Day

Veteran’s Day

November 13, 2015 - Timpson ISD and American Legion Post 90 sponsored a Veteran’s Day program on Wednesday November 11. Timpson High School students escorted the veterans to their seats to a cheering crowd that greeted them like the heroes they are. Vernett Richardson gave a history of American Legion Post 90. The charter for the Timpson American Post was approved on November 6, 1919.

The twenty one charter members were: Richardson R. Morrison, James S. Taylor, Peyton C. Clements, Edgar B. Clements William R. Mills, Joseph J. Compton, Rex Brinson, George M. Haden, Herman F. Billingsley, Arthur Thornton, Edward O. Whitton, Clant E. Shepherd, George R. Rout, Thomas C. Clements, Thomas Lee Brown, Carl Richard Neel, Johnson A. Martin, Archie T. Dillon, Joe N. McCallum, William Byrl Tartt and Will Burton. Other highlights of the program included the youth advisory council posting of the colors, presentation of American flags to veterans by the kindergarten class along with the 2015 seniors who were the first kindergarten class to present flags to veterans during the first TISD and American Legion Post 90 Veteran’s Day program in 2002.

The Timpson High School band and Master Sergeant Curt Penhallegon provided patriotic music and song. Vernett Richardson, a Navy veteran, and James Cope, army veteran, and both members of American Legion Post 90 were highlighted both for their military service to our country and their work in American Legion Post 90. Each veteran in attendance was introduced to the audience and received rousing applause in thanks for their service.

The Youth Advisory Council closed the program with a flag folding ceremony in which what each fold of the flag and what it symbolized was explained. At the close of the flag folding ceremony the Youth Advisory Council under the direction of Vernett Richardson presented a flag encased in a ceremonial box to Jim Crump in thanks and gratitude for his service to country, to the American Legion Post 90 and to Timpson ISD. Following the program the Timpson High School staff provided a delicious meal to veterans and their wives in the library.

Timpson ISD staff appreciates the veterans and the American Legion Post for their participation in the program that allows us to teach the lessons of love of country and patriotism to our students and let them see the brave men and women who served to ensure that we can live in a democracy.

Reminders to Parents
1. School starts at 7:45 each morning. 2. The school day ends at 3:25. Parent pickup will go out at 3:15. Please send box tops. If you do not have enough to fill up a bag, you may send them in a baggy and we will add to a page. We will make sure your child gets a prize

Please send the soda tabs, box tops, labels for education, and Capri sun, Kool-Aid jammers or any other of these type empty packages for recycling at the school.
