Timpson Competes at Shelbyville in District Basketball

The Timpson Lady Bears and Bears varsity basketball teams each competed at Shelbyville Dragons Gymnasium in District 23 2A basketball conference games.

The Timpson Lady Bears led the Lady Dragons 3-2 points halfway through the first period and they held a 7-6 lead going into the second quarter. The Lady Bears led 12-8 at the halftime intermission. Timpson outscored Shelbyville 15-7 points and the Lady Bears carried a 27-15 advantage into the final period. The Lady Dragons outscored the Lady Bears 12-8 points in the final quarter but Timpson held on for a 35-27 final score win. The win gives THS a 16-15 overall season record and a 10-1 District 23 standing. Shelbyville is at 17-12 overall and 4-7 in conference action. Cori Lawson led the Lady Dragons with 10 points. Sky’Annah Horton led the Lady Bears with 10 points.

In boys district action the Bears fell to the Dragons by a 54-37 final score. The Bears trailed the Dragons 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Dragons held a 36-17 advantage at the midway break and Shelbyville led 41-29 at the end of the third period on their way to the 54-37 win. The win gave SHS a 21-6 overall record and a 7-2 district mark. Timpson is 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the district. Shelbyville was led by Eli Ferguson with 21 points. Timpson’s Jackson Campbell and Chris Nickleberry II scored ten points apiece.

Timpson will host the Tenaha Tigers on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 with JV action starting at 4:30 p.m. and varsity girls and boys action following at Bears Gymnasium. Shelbyville plays at Beckville Bearcats Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 6,  with JV play beginning at 5 p.m. and varsity games following.
