She has also served as middle school cheer coach for nine years and will coach high school cheerleaders during the 2015-2016 school year. She has also served as an academic UIL coach. Mrs. Duke said what she enjoys most about teaching is her joy at seeing students succeed in academics and/or in sports. Mrs. Duke went on to say, “I like to see them excited about their accomplishments.” Mrs. Duke graduated from Timpson High School in 1992 with 28 other students in her class. She went on to attend SFASU and graduated from the university in 1996. Mrs. Duke said she has many special teachers who made an impact on her. She said, “I would say Mrs. Pam Franklin was quite an influence on me because not only was she my teacher but was my cheer coach too. As well as being a wonderful teacher, she also worked tirelessly with the cheerleaders and spent so much of her extra time with us because she really cared about the program.” Mrs. Duke, who is the sixth grade math teacher, said she loves teaching math. She went on to say,” I am grateful to Timpson ISD for the opportunity to teach these students and be a part of their education. Every day is different, every student is unique. I have the opportunity to teach so many amazing young people.” Timpson Middle School Principal Calvin Smith said, “Mrs. Duke is the consummate team player. Timpson Job Fair – Timpson High School seniors recently attended a job fair in the community building at SoSo Park. The job fair, organized and sponsored by the Timpson Chamber of Commerce, had representatives from the U.S. Navy Recruiting Station of Nacogdoches, General Shelters of Texas in Center, Work Force Solutions of Deep East Texas in Center, Etech of Nacogdoches and Smith Sawmill Services in Timpson. This event allowed students to explore a variety of job opportunities and services to prepare them for the workforce. Students were given advice about skills and traits that would help them in job interviews, scholarship interviews and job force skills. Students were encouraged to dress appropriately for both jobs and interviews, to be mindful of what they put on their social media, and to find out information about the job/scholarship for which they are interviewing. THS staff and students wish to thank the chamber and its chamber president, Paul Smith, for organizing this annual event that helps students prepare for the next step following high school graduation.
