Timpson ISD Bear Update: Pre-K Visits EcoLand, FFA Day at Capital

February 13, 2015 - Pre-K Visits EcoLand – About EcoLand At Region 7 Education Service Center EcoLand is a hands-on multi-sensory learning center where children will learn about the earth and its properties through investigation methods. The goal is to create an experience that engages all senses and utilizes hands-on methods of teaching foundational elements behind complex concepts that are relevant to the challenges of this new generation of children. In addition to educating, inspiring and empowering children to protect the earth’s environment, the EcoLand exhibits and accompanying activities will also better prepare children for the higher level critical thinking skills needed in the classroom.

Timpson Pre-K students recently visited EcoLand and participated in hands-on activities about water, rocks and plants. EcoLand will eventually serve all early childhood students, ages 3-8, from Region 7’s school districts, charter schools, Early Head Start/Head Start program, and childcare centers participating in the Region 7 Early Childhood Cooperative. Schools and educational institutions serving Region 7 early childhood students will be able to schedule field trips to EcoLand throughout the year once it is open. Additional scheduling details and requirements will be provided at a later time.
Objectives

  1. Create an environment where children are inspired to be responsible, caring stewards of the planet and its inhabitants
  2. Facilitate essential pre-school learning and educational activities that are stimulating and engaging
  3. Engage children in interactive, hands-on tasks that elevate developmental skills and cognitive learning
  4. Provide a unique learning center and resources for Region 7 schools ato use to enhance the educational experience for

A large mural map and tour guide will be able to assist in each of the tour experiences. Tours will be divided to accommodate smaller groups to allow each child the fullest EcoLand experience. Prior to an EcoLand visit, teachers will be provided with preliminary modules that introduce EcoLand’s concepts and deliver the foundational learning needed in each of the areas.
