Timpson High School held college letter of intent signings for senior student athletes Devin Moreland and JJ Garner.

Devin Moreland signed to play football and study business at Friends University in Wichita Kansas. The private non-denominational Christian university was founded in 1898 and is staffed by 319 academic personnel. The school educated around 3000 students last school year. It is NAIA and KCAC sporting affiliated. The school’s mascot is Freddie the Falcon.

Moreland stated that “I chose the school because I liked the staff, coaches, and the facilities.” He plans to contribute to the Falcons football team at the outside linebacker position. “I chose the school because I liked the courses, coaches and faculty.” “I will miss my friends and family here at Timpson.”

Moreland and JJ Garner were members of the Timpson Bears athletic teams throughout high school including the 2023 Timpson Bears State Championship Football team who went 16-0 by defeating Tolar High School 49-7 at Cowboys AT&T Stadium.

JJ Garner signed to study business and play at The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The public University was founded in 1898. It enrolled 19,056 students in the fall of 2023. The Ragin’ Cajun teams participate in NCAA athletics.

Garner said “What I will miss most about Timpson is the people here.” He said, “I’m looking forward to going to ULL because they gave me the call and I think I will enjoy the culture and food in Louisiana.”

Garner looks forward to getting a chance to contribute at the runningback position on the Cajuns football team. He has mended from both a knee injury and wrist injury and still contributed phenomenally to the Bears football team as both a runningback, quarterback, and on defense.

Garner’s former teammate and 2024 Timpson graduate Tyler Lane played at ULL last season.
