Timpson Takes Girls, Boys District Basketball Wins Over Visiting Joaquin

Both the Joaquin Lady Rams and Rams varsity basketball programs travelled to Timpson High School on Wednesday for District 23 2A conference basketball games with the Lady Bears and Bears. The Lady Bears came away with a narrow 40-35 win and the Bears took a lopsided 74-30 win over the Rams.

The girl’s game was close early with the game tied at 5-5 points midway through the first period. Timpson held a 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bears extended their lead to 16-7 midway through the second stanza but Joaquin fought back to just trail 17-12 at the midway intermission. The game was tied at 21-21 halfway through the third frame but Timpson held a narrow 27-25 point advantage going into the final period. The Lady Bears built a 32-29 lead by the midpoint of the final quarter and held on to take the 40-35 point win. The win gives THS a 15-13 overall win-loss record and a 9-1 District 23 2A mark. Joaquin stands at 9-13 overall and at 4-5 in District 23 action.

Timpson was led by Maliah Norris with 12 points. Natalie Johnson and Taylor Stewart each scored 9 points. Joaquin was led by freshman center Sevanna Stotts who scored a game-high 17 points.

The boy’s game saw Timpson jump out to a 14-4 lead early in the first period and they led the Rams 22-4 by the end of the first quarter. Halftime saw the Bears ahead of the Rams 41-13. THS led 64-22 going into the final quarter on their way to the 74-30 point win.

Timpson is at 11-10 overall this season and they hold a 6-2 District 23 2A conference mark. Joaquin is at 0-8 both for the season and in District 23 play.

High scorers for Timpson were Jackson Campbell with 44 points and JJ Garner had 28. Joaquin was led by Cooper Bragg and Conner Rios who each scored six points apiece.
