Timpson, Tenaha Split Pair of District Basketball Games

The Timpson Lady Bears Girls, and the Bears Boys, basketball teams each traveled to Tenaha for District 23 Class 2A conference games on Friday at Tigers Gymnasium.

The Tenaha Lady Tigers gained a 13-5 advantage midway through the first quarter and led 22-11 by the end of the first period. Tenaha gained a 29-16 lead by the midway point of the second frame and they led 45-18 at halftime. The Lady Tigers outpaced the Lady Bears 25-13 points in the third frame and they took a 70-31 lead into the fourth quarter on their way to an 86-47 win. The win gave Tenaha a 24-5 overall mark and a 6-0 conference record. They were led offensively by Kayanna Cox with 43 points. Kenndi Holmes had 13 and Tiyanna Dagley scored 11. Timpson stands at 11-15 overall and 5-1 in the district. They were led by Natalie Johnson and McKenley Wynn with 10 points each.

Boy’s varsity action saw the Bears lead 8-6 midway through the first period and 20-11 at the end of the first period. Timpson and Tenaha were tied at 31-31 points at the midway break. The Tigers gained a 44-40 lead over the Bears by the end of the third stanza. Timpson outscored Tenaha 21-15 in the final quarter of play and they took a 65-55 road win. The Bears were led by Terry Bussey with 21 points. Amare Bruton had 16 and Chris Nickleberry had 11. Tenaha was led by A’Vante Fredieu with 19 and Ja’Tyrion Pooh Moore with 16 points.

The Bears are now 5-4 overall and they have a 3-2 District 23 2A mark. The Tigers are 8-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Timpson will play at Garrison on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 with Girls varsity tipping off at 6:30 p.m. and Boys action to follow.

Tenaha will host the Beckville girls and boys on Tuesday, January 16 with Girls varsity tipping off at 6:30 p.m. and Boys varsity following.
