Timpson Visits Shelbyville for District 23 Basketball Conference Competition

The Timpson Bears and Shelbyville Dragons JV and Varsity basketball programs meet on Friday, January 8, 2021 to compete in District 23 2A conference action.

The Timpson Girls varsity was able to take a 39-30 win after trailing Shelbyville by a 7-8 score at the end of the first quarter and 15-12 at halftime. Claire Johnson and McKenna Wynn hit back-to-back 3-pointers which gave THS a narrow 21-18 lead midway through the third period. Timpson took a 23-21 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Bears build their lead to nine points by the final buzzer and take the 39-30 win. High scorer for the Lady Bears was Harlie Ware with 12 points. Teammate Jaycee Campbell added 10 points to the THS tally.

Kiouja Gates led Shelbyville with 11 points.

In Boys Varsity action saw Shelbyville come away with a convincing 82-61 district win. Timpson led early after taking a 9-2 advantage in the early stages of the first quarter. Shelbyville tied the game at 17-17 by the end of the opening stanza.

Shelbyville built a 41-33 lead by halftime. They led 64-47 going into the fourth quarter and led by as many as 23 points in the final quarter.

Dragon LD Coleman had 32 points and Brayden Hand added 20 points to the SHS tally. Teammate Kory Standley also had double figures with 13 points for the day,

Timpson was led by Terry Bussey with 21 points and LT Washington with 12.

Shelbyville will travel to San Augustine on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 for JV and Varsity games which tip off at 4:30 p.m.

Timpson hosts Martinsville on Tuesday, January 12 with JV beginning at 4:30 p.m. and Varsity to follow.
