Transportation Commissioners Approve Projects in Shelby County, Other Areas

September 4, 2019 - Texas Transportation Commissioners last week approved more than $817.3 million in new construction projects statewide, with $6.8 million approved for the Lufkin District. Commissioners also approved more than $33.6 million is maintenance contracts, with $3.3 million approved for the Lufkin District.

Shelby, San Augustine and Sabine counties were approved for a $3.3 million construction project. Gibson & Assoc. Inc., Balch Springs, TX will serve as contractor for the project that includes:

  • US 96 at Flat Fork Creek in Shelby County: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of a polymer deck overlay, joint repairs and erosion repairs.
  • SH 103 at Chinquapin Creek in San Augustine County: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of substructure repairs and erosion repairs.
  • SH 103 at Ayish Bayou in San Augustine County: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of a polymer deck overlay, joint sealing and substructure repairs.
  • SH 103 at Palo Gaucho Bayou in Sabine County: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of concrete deck repairs, a polymer deck overlay and joint repairs.
  • SH 147 at Angelina River in San Augustine County: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of concrete deck repairs, a polymer deck overlay and joint sealing.

US 59 in Polk County was approved for a $1.5 million construction project. SCR Civil Construction LLC, Richmond, TX will serve as contractor for the project that includes:

  • At Alexander Creek: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of concrete deck repairs, substructure repairs and erosion repairs.
  • At McCardell Slough Northbound: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of concrete deck repairs and concrete superstructure repairs.
  • At McCardell Slough Southbound: For the construction of bridge maintenance consisting of concrete deck repairs, joint sealing, cleaning and painting.

Lake Livingston State Park in Polk County was approved for a $1.9 million construction project designed to rehabilitate the roadways, campsite pullouts and camping areas with the application of an asphalt overlay in Pin Oak and Hercules camping areas. Drewery Construction, Nacogdoches, TX will serve as contractor for the project.

Maintenance projects approved include:

  • SH 7 in Nacogdoches County was approved for a $413,947 project that includes upgrading metal beam guard fence in various locations from Carrizo Creek to west of Martinsville. 3LW Civil LLC, Mason TX, will serve as contractor.
  • San Jacinto, Houston, Polk and Trinity counties were approved for a $1.9 million project that will include mill and inlay operations in various locations. Moore Brothers Construction, Lufkin TX, will serve as contractor.
  • Shelby, Angelina and Nacogdoches counties were approved for a $939,778 project that will include mill and inlay operations in various locations. Moore Brothers Construction, Lufkin TX will serve as contractor.

As these construction projects begin, motorists are urged to stay alert, obey all traffic control and reduce speed in and near a work zone. Pre-construction meetings will be held in coming days to determine timelines for each project.
