TxDOT District Holding Public Hearing on US 59 / US 259 Interchange Project

September 3, 2024 – TxDOT is hosting a virtual public hearing with an in-person option on Thursday, September 5 for the US 59/US 259 North Nacogdoches (Future I-69) construction project. This project is being designed to bring US 59 and the US 59/US 259 interchange up to current interstate standards by making it a controlled access roadway and reconfiguring the interchange.

The in-person option is set for September 5 from 5-7 p.m. at the Nacogdoches County Exposition and Civic Center, 3805 NW Stallings Drive, in Nacogdoches. The meeting will offer attendees a view of plans, proposed designs, and copies of project materials. There will also be engineers, consultants, right-of-way agents and staff in attendance to answer questions.

This project is dedicated to improving safety and mobility along US 59 (Future I-69) from Stallings Drive/Loop 224 to 1.3 miles north of US 259 in Nacogdoches County. TxDOT is proposing to upgrade existing US 59 to a controlled access roadway by constructing frontage roads and reconstructing the US 59/US 259 interchange. The project would improve interchange connectivity, reduce congestion, increase mobility, and enhance safety. It would be designed to meet interstate standards for possible future designation as I-69.

This 3.7-mile project includes the following improvements:

  • Reconstructing US 59 main lanes to provide four 12-foot travel lanes, two in each direction, 10-foot inside shoulders with a concrete barrier, and 12-foot outside shoulders
  • Constructing northbound and southbound frontage roads with two 12-foot lanes, four-foot inside shoulders, and 10-foot outside shoulders.
  • Constructing shared use paths along proposed US 59 frontage roads with sidewalks along US 259 throughout project limits
  • Reconfiguring the US 59/US 259 interchange to provide new flyover bridges for northbound US 59 and southbound US 259

TxDOT is also providing a virtual option for individuals who would rather view the materials online. The virtual public hearing materials will be posted online on Thursday, September 5, at 5pm. Following the virtual public hearing, the materials will remain available for viewing online at www.txdot.gov, by searching ‘US 59/US 259 North’. The comment period deadline for this project is Friday, September 20 at 11:59pm.
