TxDOT Project Updates, Schedules for March 25-29

March 22, 2019 Lufkin – With warmer weather and sunshine comes plenty of work on Lufkin District construction and maintenance projects. Many work zones include lane or shoulder closures or pilot cars to guide traffic through the work area.

“Motorists should remain patient and reduce their speed when they approach a work zone,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the district. “There is always moving equipment and many workers in the area. Motorists should stay alert and obey all signage for their own safety as well as for the safety of our workers.”

Work schedules in the nine-county Lufkin District for the week of March 25-29, weather permitting, includes:

Shelby

  • US 59 North: Mill and inlay is scheduled to begin on Wednesday with crews working between Tenaha and Timpson. Lane closures are expected.
  • SH 87: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to SH 147.
  • FM 414: Work is scheduled to level up the roadway in various locations. Lane closures are expected.
  • CR 4789: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment at this bridge replacement project at the tributary of Blackwater Creek and at Risinger Creek on CR 4620.

Angelina

  • US 69 North: Work to upgrade metal beam guardrail to design standard will continue from SL 287 to the Cherokee County line. Lane closures expected.
  • US 59 South: Work is scheduled to backfill pavement edges on this project designed to resurface the roadway from Whitehouse Drive to FM 2497 near Diboll. Motorists should expect delays, night and daytime work as weather allows and lane closures.
  • US 69 South (Phase I): Crews are working to establish vegetation and repair back slopes from Huntington to FM 844 on this project that is designed to widen the roadway from two to four lanes.
  • US 69 South (Phase II): Work will continue from FM 844 to FM 1270 as crews work to construct the northbound roadway, install drainage structures and construct bridge sub-structures. Drill shafts and columns are also being constructed for the overpass at SH 63. In addition, dirt and structure work for the future southbound Shawnee Creek Bridge is beginning. This project is designed to widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway. Motorists should expect some intermittent delays in some areas and/or shoulder closures, as well as large trucks entering and exiting the roadway to and from the work areas.
  • SH 147: Work is planned on cross drainage structures, driveway safety end treatments, and culverts near side roads on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards from just north of FM 3123 to FM 2109.
  • FM 1194: Crews are scheduled to cut high shoulders in various locations.
  • FM 304: Work is scheduled to cut high shoulders in various locations.
  • FM 325/Lufkin Avenue: Crews are scheduled to continue concrete work and connect driveways from SL 287 moving west toward Timberland Drive on this project designed to install sidewalks and intersection ramps.
  • FM 1669: Work is scheduled to cut high shoulders in various locations.
  • FM 841: The bridge at Biloxi Creek has been reopened on this project to replace the bridge and approaches. Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment.
  • Robinson Lane: This roadway remains closed as crews continue to work to place bridge beams on this bridge replacement project at Gilliland Creek.
  • Various locations: Work is scheduled to sweep, spray herbicide, patch potholes and straighten signs.

Nacogdoches

  • SH 21: Work is scheduled to stripe the turn lane on this project to upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to the San Augustine County line. Motorists should expect possible intermittent lane closures.
  • FM 95: Crews are placing topsoil on this bridge replacement project at Terrapin Creek. Lane closures expected.
  • FM 1638: Crews will continue to monitor vegetative establishment and place mailboxes and signs on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards, safety treat fixed objects and provide additional pavement width from FM 698 to US 59/SL 224.
  • SL 224: Crews are scheduled to begin mill and inlay work on both the east and west sides of the loop. Intermittent lane closures are expected.

Sabine

  • FM 1: Crews are scheduled to continue preparing the right of way for this project that is designed to upgrade guardrails to design standards and provide additional pavement width from the San Augustine County line to SH 103.
  • SH 21: Work is scheduled to safety treat fixed objects from the San Augustine County line to FM 3448 as part of a project to upgrade guardrail to design standards.
  • Various locations: Crews will be working disaster relief maintenance on FM 276 at Patroon Creek Bridge, FM 1592 at Tebo Creek Relief, FM 705 at Turkey Creek Bridge, and FM 2971 just south of FM 83. Possible lane closures expected.
  • Various locations: Crews are scheduled to level up the pavement. Intermittent lane closures expected.

San Augustine

  • SH 147: Crews are scheduled to level up pavement in various locations.
  • SH 21: Bridge replacements are complete and crews are monitoring vegetative establishment at Venado Creek and Perkins Creek.
  • FM 2261: Crews will work to level up the pavement in various locations.
  • FM 711: Crews will be placing rip rap near culverts on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the pavement from the Shelby County line to US 96.

Houston

  • SH 19: Crews continue to monitor vegetative establishment on this project to improve guardrail to design standards from 1.6 miles north of FM 231 to the Trinity County line.
  • SH 21: Crews are working on cross drainage structures and earthwork on this project designed to reconstruct and add passing lanes from the east end of the Trinity River Bridge to FM 1280. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures.
  • SH 21: Crews continue to lay a hot mix asphalt surface on this project designed to reconstruct pavement and add passing lanes from 2.3 miles east of FM 2967 to SH 7. Lane closures should be expected with a pilot car to guide traffic.
  • FM 2781: Crews are working on cross drainage structures and driveway safety end treatments on this project to reconstruct and widen existing pavement from FM 1280 to US 287.
  • FM 228: Work is scheduled to repair base and level up the roadway. Intermittent lane closures expected.
  • FM 1280: Work is scheduled to repair the railroad crossing at SH 19. Road closures expected.
  • FM 2663: Crews will repair driveway entries.
  • FM 227: Work is scheduled to repair edges from FM 2022 to Grapeland.
  • CR 2245 and CR 1515: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment at these locations where bridges and approaches have been replaced.
  • Various locations: Crews will patch potholes and repair signs.

Trinity

  • FM 2262: Work is scheduled to continue to prepare the right of way and upgrade guardrail on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the roadway from FM 357 to SH 94.
  • FM 2781: Crews are scheduled to repair base in various locations.

Polk

  • US 190 East: Crews are scheduled to mill and inlay the roadway from BU 59 to Country Charm Road. Lane closures expected.
  • FM 350 North: Crews are working on culvert headwalls on this project designed to improve guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects.
  • FM 942 West: Work is scheduled to remove the silt sand along the creek line.
  • FM 3277: Edge repairs are scheduled in various locations from FM 3126 West for 3.4 miles on both sides of the roadway. Lane closures expected.

San Jacinto

  • US 190 West: Mill and inlay is scheduled throughout the week. Lane closures expected.
  • US 59: Crews will work to repair washouts and address drainage issues in various locations.
  • SH 150: Crews are scheduled to continue work on driveway culverts on this project designed to reconstruct the pavement and add passing lanes from the Walker County line to FM 945 North.
  • SH 150: Work is scheduled in various locations to repair potholes and drainage issues.
  • SH 156: Culvert, guardrail and bridge repairs are scheduled in various locations.
  • FM 1725: Work is scheduled to install safety end treatments on this project designed to improve guardrail to design standards.
  • FM 945: Crews are working to improve bridge rail on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards from SH 156 North to SH 156 South.
  • FM 224: Work is scheduled to repair washouts in various locations.
  • FM 3081: Edge repair is scheduled in various locations.
  • FM 2693: Work is scheduled to repair culverts, guardrail and bridges in various locations.
  • FM 3081: Crews are scheduled to cut high shoulders in various locations.
  • Various locations: Work is scheduled to repair signs, potholes, delineators and mailboxes. Herbicide treatment to control vegetation is also scheduled.
