Veterans Memorial Day 2023

May 26, 2023 - Post Commander Richard Lundie and the members of Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and Auxiliary cordially invite you to attend their Memorial Day Program to be held at the Windham Civic Center, 146 Express Boulevard, Center, Texas on Monday, May 29, 2023.

The remembrance program will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Josh Crawford of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church giving the invocation. The posting of the Military Battle Cross, the National Anthem by David Mathis of the First Baptist Church and the Pledge of Allegiance will follow. VFW Post Member US Army Sergeant First Class (Retired) Mary Roberts will then welcome those in attendance and emcee the program.

Miss Maisyn Moore, Joaquin High School will present her award winning Voice of Democracy essay, followed by a musical selection of “In Flanders Fields” by the First Baptist Church. The Shelby County 4-H Sewing Sensations Project will then present a “Quilt of Valor” to three Shelby County Veterans.

The heart of the program then begins with the “Roll Call of Honor” as the names of 231 Shelby County, Texas Veterans who died in the service of their country are read. As the names are read, the audience is invited to place a remembrance flower on the Memorial Wreath. Dylan Roberts will sing “America the Beautiful” before all adjourn outside for the playing of Taps and raising of the flags.
