VFW Post 8904, Auxiliary to Celebrate Flag Day

June 14, 2022 - In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777. The United States Army also celebrates their birthday on this date.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. In August 1946, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress but is not an official federal holiday.

Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Auxiliary will celebrate Flag Day with the patrons of the Senior Nutrition Center, Loop 500 in Center, at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. The US and Texas Flags that have flown at the Center for the past year will be replaced.

The current flag pole was donated by the Post and Auxiliary with a dedication held on June 13, 2014 in memory of Pam White who passed away in April 29, 2014 and was the executive director of Shelby County Outreach Ministries from 1995-2014.
