This Week in Shelby County Football: Area Playoffs

November 14, 2022 - Three of five of Shelby County’s varsity football teams took wins this past week. Tenaha and Shelbyville were eliminated this week. Center, Joaquin, and Timpson have advanced on to the Area Round of the Texas UIL Football Playoffs.

The Center Roughriders varsity football team won their bi-district round playoff over the Liberty Eylau Leopards by a 67-21 score. The Roughriders are now 8-3 overall and they will face the Aubrey Chaparrals (9-2) next week in an area round playoff. Aubrey, the first-place team from District 5, beat Lincoln High by a 63-12 score to advance. The game is at Tyler Rose Stadium on Saturday, November 19, at 6:00 p.m.

The Joaquin Rams are now 8-2 overall this season. They defeated Jewett Leon by a 61-0 score. They will next face the Beckville Bearcats at Stephen F. Austin’s Homer Bryce Stadium on Friday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. Beckville is 10-1 after beating Rivercrest 77-7.

The #1 Timpson Bears are 11-0 overall after beating Groveton 60-3. They will face the Frankston Indians (9-2) at Rusk Eagles Stadium on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
