Where Will You Spend Veterans Day 2024? (Update)

November 4, 2024 - Veterans Day, November 11, is a time for all Americans to pay their respects to those who have served our country. One day to stand united in respect for All veterans, past and present. We celebrate and honor America’s Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, willingness to serve, and sacrifice for the common good.

Traditionally, Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 does not have a program on this day. Instead, we join with the local schools that are hosting an event to honor this day. Programs known as of November 5, 2024 are:

  • Thursday, November 7, F.L. Moffett, 7:45am - There will be a program by students followed by a breakfast. If you are a non-VFW member and would like to attend, please contact the principal, Jessica Wallace, at 936-598-6266, extension 2601.
  • Friday, November 8, Center Elementary 12:15 pm - Lunch with students. If you are a non-VFW member and would like to attend, please contact the assistant principal, Elizabeth Bennett, at 936-598-3625, extension 2502.
  • Monday, November 11, Timpson 10am - Timpson ISD Event Center.
  • Monday, November 11, Joaquin, 9am - Joaquin HS Gym, there is special seating for Veterans. A breakfast reception for Veterans and Families follows in the HS Library. Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen awards will be presented by VFW Post 8904.
  • Monday, November 11, Shelbyville, 9am - Students will host a program in the Shelbyville ISD cafetorium.
  • Tuesday, November 12, Center, 10am - Center High School will hold its annual Veterans Day program in the high school gym. Attending veterans should meet in the high school cafetorium next to the gym by 9:45am. At the beginning of the program, the veterans will march into the gym to special seating. Please allow yourself time to get checked in at the front office.

We encourage every citizen of Shelby County, especially military veterans, to join us in attending one or more of these programs. The students put in a lot of time and effort to make our local veterans feel special, and if you’ve never attended, you will be glad you did.
