September 4, 2018 Alto, Texas – Caddo Mounds State Historic Site invites the public to participate in a day program learning about the ancient hunting and throwing device known as the atlatl. The program will be offered at 1:00 P.M. Activities will include instruction on the development of hunting tools, different atlatl styles, and throwing techniques. There will be an opportunity for participants to practice throwing darts at a target using the atlatl. This program is part of a primitive technologies series being offered at the site.

The program will be offered at 12pm. Activities will include instruction on the development of hunting tools, different atlatl styles, and throwing techniques. There will also be an outside segment where the participants can practice throwing darts at a target using the atlatl. This program is part of a primitive technologies series being offered at the site.
June 14, 2017 - Join Douglas (Doug) Parsons, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Tyler Junior College, for a night sky program at Caddo Mounds SHS.
Doug will bring an array of telescopes - from a modest 4 inch diameter telescope to the large 20 inch diameter telescope. You are invited to bring your own telescope, picnic blankets and lawn chairs.
Saturn will be high in the sky during this time as will the center of our galaxy (so lots of clusters and nebulae).
