Republic of Texas Program Presented by the DRT William Carroll Crawford Chapter

February 19, 2019 - The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas shared some of the history of Shelby County at the Shelby County Historical Society meeting held on January 15, 2019 at the Museum. The main speaker for the DRT was Barbara McClellan.

It was a brief 10-year history between 1836 and 1846. It was its own country. Do you know about the everyday settlers of this time period? The farmers, blacksmiths, preachers. Everyone knows about Houston, Crockett, and Fannin but let’s talk about the everyday people. 

Bill O'Neal Speaks at Museum on Texas in WWI

September 27, 2018 - Bill O’Neal gave a history of Texas in World War I to the Shelby County Museum on October 18, 2018. He first gave the group a parameter on world war. There had not been a war in nearly a century since the Napoleonic War which lasted into the early 1800s. This spilled over to the United States for War of 1812. World War I started in 1914 in Europe. The fighting lasted more than 4 years. When the United States got into the war in April of 1917, the war was 2 ½ years old at that time and the United States was only in the war for 1 ½ years. Shelby County Commissioners Approve Hiring Part Time Employee

July 27, 2015 - The Shelby County Commissioners approved Debora Riley, Tax Assessor Collector, requested to hire a part time employee with a start date of mid August at the July 27th Commissioners Court meeting.  This part time employee then would go full time when another employee leaves.  This early hire date would enable training for the new employee.
