Low-interest Disaster Loans Help Fuel Texas Disaster Recovery

April 22, 2016 - Disaster recovery experts today urged applicants for federal assistance to complete a disaster loan application from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Taking a loan is not required; completing the application can open the door to all federal assistance, including possible additional grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. If approved, and a survivor does not accept the loan, it may make them ineligible for additional federal assistance.
 

FEMA Officials Urge Applicants for Aid to ‘Stay in Touch,’ Get Answers, Resolve Issues

April 21, 2016 AUSTIN, Texas – Texans who registered with FEMA for disaster aid are urged by recovery officials to “stay in touch.” It is the best way to get answers and resolve potential issues that might have resulted in assistance being denied.

After registering with FEMA, applicants should receive notice by mail as to whether or not they qualify for federal disaster assistance. Read the letter carefully.

April 19, 2016 - FEMA Mitigation specialists will be on hand to answer questions and offer home improvement tips to reduce disaster damage. Information is geared to both do-it-yourselfers and general contractors on topics such as storm shelters and safe rooms.

Lowe’s: 3313 N. Fourth Street, Longview, TX 75605
Lowe’s: 900 W Gibson, Jasper, TX 75951
Available: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., today April 19.

April 18, 2016 - As a result of the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred March 7-29, 2016, the state and FEMA are working to provide technical assistance to Texas communities about flood insurance and rebuilding issues.

Disaster Assistance Is for Texas Renters, Too

April 14, 2016 - AUSTIN, Texas – Renters in Texas counties whose homes and property were damaged by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. Aid is available to residents of Erath, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Hood, Jasper, Limestone, Marion, Newton, Orange, Parker, Shelby and Tyler counties.
 
Federal grants can help pay for temporary housing not covered by insurance. These rental grants are initially for two months.
 

FEMA, State Grants Will Not Affect Social Security Or Other Federal Benefits

April 13, 2016 - AUSTIN, Texas – Texas residents affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in March will not lose Social Security benefits, pay additional taxes, or give up income-based benefit programs if they accept federal or state disaster aid. This includes homeowners, renters and businesses in Erath, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Hood, Jasper, Limestone, Marion, Newton, Orange, Parker, Shelby and Tyler counties who register for disaster assistance.
 

Registering with State, Volunteer Agencies Not the Same as FEMA

April 11, 2016 - AUSTIN, Texas – Many Texas residents affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from March 7-March 29, may have registered for assistance with state or volunteer agencies. State and federal recovery officials want survivors to know this is not the same as registering for federal disaster aid with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

April 11, 2016 - AUSTIN, Texas – State and federal recovery officials encourage Texans to watch for and report any suspicious activity or potential fraud from scam artists, identity thieves and other criminals. Also, be aware FEMA does not endorse any commercial businesses, products or services.
