Representative Paddie Capital Update (Deadline Today)

February 25, 2021 - These past several days have been trying for all Texans, from those losing power and heat to those that found themselves without water, or boiling water from previously safe sources, and many who experienced all of these conditions simultaneously.

There have been billions of dollars in property damage from weather related instances and burst pipe and water damage, but most heartbreakingly, dozens of Texans died trying to survive the cold, many inside their own homes.

Capitol Update for 87th Legislature

January 22, 2021 - Last week, we started the 87th Legislature. Like many things this past year, the swearing-in ceremony was far different than past years and saw the legislative session open with less pageantry. Regardless of the circumstances, I am always honored to represent East Texas in the Legislature and will continue to work hard to bring our East Texas values to Austin.

May 24th Capitol Update for Last Week of Session

May 24, 2019 - This is the last week of session, which ends this coming Monday, May 27th. This has been a busy and productive session and we are starting to see the big pieces come together after weeks of negotiation.

One of the biggest goals of this session has been to overhaul our broken school finance system while providing property tax relief to Texas property owners. This week Speaker Bonnen, Lt. Gov. Patrick, and Gov. Abbott held a press conference to announce the agreement that has been reached on HB 3.

Capital Update: 86th Legislative Session Final Days

May 17, 2019 - We are into the single digit days of the 86th Legislative Session and while there are only a few days left, there is still a lot of work to do. We are very close to seeing the final version of the state budget, which will have significantly more funding for public education, including raises for teachers and funds for property tax relief. I will have a more thorough update on the budget once the final version is released.

Capital Update: Nearing the End of 86th Legislative Session

May 10, 2019 - This is the week that we truly begin winding up the legislative session.  Last Thursday was the last day for debate on House bills and in short order, Senate bills will face the same deadline.  There are less than twenty days left in the 86th Legislature and we are frantically working to finish reforming school finance, reforming property taxes, and completing a common-sense, within-our-means budget.
