June 25, 2019 - Those hot, sweltering summer days are rapidly approaching! With them come days spent at the pool or on the lake, cooling off with an ice-cold slice of watermelon, wiping sticky popsicle residue off of grinning faces, and… fire ants? It would be hard to find someone who does not know what it feels like to be an unsuspecting victim of an aimless fire ant attack.

No land = No Water

June 19, 2019 - Did you know that it takes 507,000 ounces of water to produce only 2.2 pounds of beef? What is more amazing is that takes 3,380 ounces of water to make just two slices of bread and 2,197 ounces to make the cheese filling in your sandwich. And for us coffee drinkers, it takes 6,720 ounces of water to produce the coffee beans for one cup of coffee. As native Texan Lyndon B. Johnson once stated “Saving the water and the soil must start where the first rain drop falls.”

The Family Farm is So Underrated

June 4, 2019 - If you are from Texas or living within its boundaries, you know that it is big and rapidly growing and has a lot to offer. From a booming oil and natural gas industry to more cattle and poultry than any other state, Texas is a leader in job opportunities and production agriculture. We often think of the agriculture industry as some massive conglomerate that only exists to make a buck. The agriculture industry takes a lot of heat and misconceptions are cast frequently.

April Showers Bring… Hay?

May 28, 2019 - From the panhandle plains to South Padre Island and from as far east and west as its’ borders allow, the State of Texas has room for crops to flourish and livestock to roam. Lands used for agriculture in Texas add up to roughly 130 million acres. Texas is known for its’ cattle and cotton production, but the diversity represented in the Texas agriculture industry is a well-kept secret. The Rio Grande Valley is ideal for growing citrus, sugarcane, and watermelons. The Panhandle is home to beef cattle feedlots, dairy cattle and cotton.
