Ceremonial Readings of the Declaration of Independence Set for July 3rd

July 1, 2019 - The Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association has announced that the United States Declaration of Independence will be read aloud on the front steps of the county courthouses of Texas counties prior to July 4, 2019.

In Shelby County, the Declaration will be read by local criminal defense lawyers, Jeff Adams, Lynda K. Russell and Deck Jones. This will take place at the main entrance to the historic Shelby County Courthouse at 4pm, Wednesday, July 3, 2019. This year’s reading will also include a reading of the Bill of Rights.

Declaration of Independence to Be Read on Courthouse Steps

June 30, 2017 - To honor America and the freedoms we all enjoy, and to celebrate the significance of Independence Day, members of the Shelby County criminal defense bar will gather at the entrance to the historic courthouse at 12pm noon, Friday, June 30, 2017, for a formal reading of the United States Declaration of Independence. The public is encouraged to attend.

The annual ceremony is a part of a statewide effort by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. This year the declaration will be read in each of the 254 Texas counties.

Shelby County Lawyers to Perform Ceremonial Readings of the Declaration of Independence

June 27, 2016 - The Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association has announced that the United States Declaration of Independence will be read aloud on the front steps of the county courthouses of all 254 Texas counties prior to July 4, 2016.

In Shelby County, the Declaration will be read by local criminal defense lawyers, Jeff Adams and Deck Jones. This will occur at the Shelby County Courthouse, 200 San Augustine St., Center, Texas at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016.
