November 25, 2015 - The U.S. Forest Service will close the SFA Experimental Forest December 2-4, while conducting managed deer hunts in cooperation with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Plants Material Center which is located on the Experimental Forest.
October 15, 2015 - The 7th Annual Angelina Wheelin’ Sportsmen Event for people with disabilities will be December 11-12 at the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest, Winston Tree Farm and Alazon Wildlife Management Area.
The two-day deer and hog hunt is sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Wheelin Sportsmen program, U.S. Forest Service, National Forests and Grasslands in Texas, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, April AWOL and Pineywoods NWTF Chapters.
October 15, 2015 - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking nominations to fill 11 positions on a new Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee for national forests across the Southeast.
September 25, 2015 - As gun deer hunting season begins, U.S. Forest Service officials are reminding hunters of guidelines designed to make their hunting trips to national forests safe and enjoyable, while sustaining the health of the forests.
Earlier this year, heavy rains and flooding damaged many roads in the forests and grasslands. While most roads have been repaired, some remain impassable and are closed. Check with the Ranger’s Office to make sure your favorite hunter camp is open.
August 17, 2015 - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will conduct Antlerless Deer permit applications and selections through an on-line application process for the National Forests in Texas.

June 26, 2015 - As the July 4 holiday weekend approaches, officials with the U.S. Forest Service are reminding the public that fireworks are prohibited in the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas.
Despite recent rains, fireworks can create a potentially dangerous fire situation, and Forest Supervisor Mark Van Every says law enforcement personnel will be watchful again this year.
