USDA Forest Service Invests in Restoring State and Private Forests in Southern Region

August 30, 2023 - The USDA Forest Service is investing in 18 projects in nine Southern states and Puerto Rico to restore forests across state and private lands.

These funded projects mark the first time the agency has made Landscape Scale Restoration program grants directly available to federally recognized tribes and Alaska Native Corporations to restore priority forest landscapes on tribal lands, including trust lands, reservation lands, and other lands owned by tribes.

USDA Launches AskUSDA to Improve and Streamline Customer Experience

November 30, 2020 - Today, U.S Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced the official launch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) AskUSDA Contact Center program. The AskUSDA Contact Center will serve as the “one front door” for phone, chat, and web inquires, transforming how the public interacts with USDA and providing an enhanced experience for the public.

Forest Service waives Day-Use Fees for Veterans Day

November 10, 2020 – Many recreation areas and other venues in the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas will be free to the public on November 11 in honor of Veterans Day.

“We honor our veterans each Veterans Day and every other day of the year,” said Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor. “We hope that this time will serve as a way for our veterans and other visitors to find our national forests and grasslands as a year-round respite, a place where they can take time out for themselves.”

U.S. Forest Service Officials Urge Hunters to Use Caution in The Woods

November 6, 2020 - As gun deer hunting season begins, U.S. Forest Service officials remind hunters of guidelines designed to make their hunting trips to national forests safe and enjoyable while sustaining the health of the forests.

“Hunting season is one of the busiest times in the forest, and safety is always a primary concern,” said Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor. “Visitors should check their surroundings and be aware of the possibility of falling limbs or trees. Remember, being in the woods is great, but you are responsible for your own safety.”

Forest Service Waives Day-Use Fees for National Public Lands Day

September 17, 2020 – The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas are waiving fees at day-use recreation sites September 26 for National Public Lands Day.

“We hope this free day offers an incentive to all people to experience the great outdoors in our forests and grasslands,” Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor said.

Camping fees remain in effect, but day-use fees are waived on Saturday, September 26 at these recreation areas and trails:

Angelina National Forest: Caney Creek and Townsend.
