December 9, 2015 - Experts at Texas A&M Forest Service will host a free winter fire weather webinar that will look at the winter weather outlook, how the agency determines fire danger and what you and your audience should watch for this season.

Texas A&M Forest Service Awards $15.7 Million in Grant Funds to Volunteer Fire Departments

October 29, 2015 - Intense wildfire seasons and life-altering emergencies call for better equipment and more training for our firefighters on the frontline. With over 85 percent of Texas fire departments being operated by volunteers, funding for essential equipment and training can be hard to come by.

The Texas Legislature allocates funding to Texas A&M Forest Service for pass-through grants to Texas volunteer fire departments in an effort to help them better protect lives and property.

Texas A&M Forest Service Celebrates 100 Years of Service with 100 Trees to 100 Communities


October 20, 2015 - One-hundred communities across Texas are receiving a special delivery of 100 trees in honor of Texas A&M Forest Service’s centennial year, capping off a full year of celebrating the agency’s commitment to conserve and protect Texas’ trees and forests.

Aiming to help communities expand their urban tree canopy, 10,000 seedlings were grown at the TFS-operated West Texas Nursery specifically for “100 Trees for 100 Communities.” Sign up was first open to Texas’ Tree City USA communities, then expanded to other cities and towns.

East Texas hosts 18th annual Interagency Wildfire and Incident Management Academy

June 2, 2015 - Natural disasters are frequent in Texas. To collaboratively meet the demands of responding to wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes and flood events, all-hazard response incident management training is needed—training that emergency responders will receive at the East Texas Interagency Wildfire and Incident Management Academy.

Texas A&M Forest Service Celebrates a Century of Service

Febraury 12, 2015 - Over the past 100 years, Texas A&M Forest Service has accomplished many feats, including establishing itself as a premiere entity in both forestry and all-hazard response.

The state agency was established in 1915 by the 34th Texas Legislature under the Texas A&M College—making TFS the first state forestry agency in the nation to be part of a land grant institution. A fact not lost on former TFS director (1980-1996) Bruce Miles.
