Rep. Chris Paddie Capitol Update: Gov. Abbott State of State, Committee Appointment, Broadband Expansion

February 8, 2021 - I hope many of you were able to catch Governor Abbott's State of the State address this past Monday. Gov. Abbott laid out 5 emergency items for the Legislature to begin addressing. These emergency items are (1) expanding broadband internet access, (2) ending the practice of defunding the police, (3) reforming Texas' bail system, (4) ensuring election integrity, and (5) providing civil liability protections for businesses relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Paddie Appointed to Chair Influential State Affairs Committee

February 5, 2021 - State Representative Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) has been appointed as Chairman of the State Affairs Committee.  

"I am excited to be working on issues that are vitally important to East Texas," said Rep. Paddie.  "This committee chairmanship will allow our district to have influence on many of the important issues that will be addressed by this legislature.  Now that we have committee assignments, I am looking forward to getting to work and tackling the many issues facing our state." 

Rep. Chris Paddie Capitol Update: Bills Filed In Effort To Streamline Government

March 15, 2017 - Last week was a busy one in Austin. Friday was the bill filing deadline for both the House and Senate and we saw a record number of filings in both chambers.

I filed some final pieces of legislation as well last week. Many of these bills will serve to streamline our government by removing unnecessary and burdensome regulations from current law.

March 8, 2017 - Last week, the House passed HB 4 and HB 5, which encourage kinship care and reform the Department of Family and Protective Services.  These bills were deemed emergency items by Governor Abbott in his State of the State address earlier this session.  I am proud of the work done by the House to protect our foster children and look forward to the Senate taking up these bills to continue the work started by the House.

February 14, 2017 - This week saw the Texas Senate pass the sanctuary cities bill as well as the ethics bill that Gov. Abbott designated as emergency items. Those important bills will now pass over to the House where we will give them consideration and send them on to the Governor for his signature.

Representative Paddie Passes Sales Tax Exemption for Firearms, Hunting Supplies

May 18, 2015 - AUSTIN -- State Representative Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) passed H.B. 849 out of the House of Representatives. H.B. 849 passed the House with 110 votes, an overwhelming and bipartisan endorsement of this common sense legislation.

"Hunting in Texas is a beloved pastime. H.B. 849 looks to give tax relief to the many sportsmen and women who carry on the time-honored tradition and continue to pass our love of hunting and the outdoors down to the next generation," said Rep. Paddie.

Representative Paddie Files Sales Tax Exemption For Firearms, Hunting Supplies

January 26, 2015 - State Representative Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) filed H.B. 849, which would create two sales tax holidays for firearms and hunting supplies.

"H.B. 849 recognizes that hunting is a time-honored tradition in Texas and looks to give tax relief to the sportsmen and women who continue one of our most cherished pastimes and, more importantly, those who continue to pass our love of hunting and the outdoors down to the next generation," said Rep. Paddie.
